Kona Team member Mike Owen's signature board, the Owen, is a souped-up modern longboard. This traditional log with all the modern upgrades is designed for smooth and quick rail-to-rail surfing in waves of varying sizes and forms. The Owen does it all with aplomb, be it punchy beach breaks, overhead point-break surfs, reefs, or gently rolling wave hot-dog conditions. While it looks like your traditional longboard, finesse is packed into the design. Any top longboarder will attest to the fact that although there is so much board underfoot, the slightest design changes can make a world of difference. The subtlest change in rail design, rocker template or volume translates to a different surfboard once up and riding.

Outline:Increased nose and tail rocker allow the Owen longboard to be highly manoeuvrable down the line. while all the flat space through the middle of the board allows for speed and momentum. The 2+1 fin set-up offers some choice and anchors the board to the wave. while the rounded pin tail allows for smooth carving on the open face and necessary bite in the pocket.

Rocker:Accentuated curves in the nose and tail areas leave room for plenty of flat surface area through the middle of the board. making for a combination of looseness and speed.

Bottom Contours:A single to double-concave helps to gather and maintain trim speed. while the vee through the tail allows for better arcs and carves. A standard longboard tends to simple and mild bottom contours and rocker designs. hearkening back to a time when there was less design knowledge and information. Still. the Owen design embraces the available knowledge and expertise and the technology available to utilize that knowledge.

Tail:That rounded pin design tapers off at about two-thirds down for better turns and carves. The round design of the pin also allows for smooth rail-to-rail transitions in order to keep your speed up when surfing over flat spots or in weak conditions.
