Kona Oyster Catcher EPS Carbon Surfboard
The best thing about a groveller is that they are made to be surfed when the waves are terrible. In fact, the main goal of this board is to transform a surf session with terrible waves into a lot of fun.
The best way to have fun when the waves are bad is to go out and ride a lot of waves in a short amount of time and have so much fun doing it.
This groveller, this little gem, is the board that will see you catch so many waves despite the conditions. A few unique little design elements help make this board a wave-catching machine, especially in waves under 6 feet.
A rounded nose is not a secret when it comes to catching waves. Still, it is unique on a smaller board aimed at grovelling. Its superior paddling scoop allows the surfer to get up to top speed quickly after take-off.
The mid-entry rocker has enough lift in the nose along with the kick in the tail for those super-late take-offs that will make you so proud to stick. The 60/40 rails lend a bit of looseness to the wider and rounder Oyster Catcher shape, but with enough bite in cleaner, steeper waves to carve with confidence.
With a single concave leading to a double concave, the bottom contour gives you plenty of lift, and with the five-fin option there are enough configurations to make the board hum in any conditions.
Outline:The rounded pin nose and wide point pushed farther back than a traditional fish is fast down the line. The deck domes under the chest for more volume and stability without sacrificing performance. The rails are nice and sensitive. The additional speed created by the outline is balanced nicely with a wide swallow tail which will give the rider more bite on the wave.
Rocker:The lower rocker has plenty of flip in the nose to prevent pearling but enough flat section to get into waves and keep you moving down the line.
Bottom Contours:A single concave to a double concave keeps the board fast while a vee through the tail helps turn the board nicely.
Tail:By lessening the vee in the tail compared to a traditional fish. the swallow tail is not as loose. Maintaining speed throughout the board. the swallow tail gives you more control on transitions.
